Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced Pakistan’s first electric bus in Karachi. The first electric bus will run from Clifton Clock to the beach. They roam the streets of Karachi, and the number of vehicles gradually increases. The transport minister inaugurated the Peoples Electric Bus Service, Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, and Sindh Labour Minister Saeed Ghani at Clock Tower, Seaview. At the inauguration ceremony, the provincial minister traveled in the bus and reviewed its facilities.

Bus Routes:

Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the bus service was being started from Tank Chowk Jinnah Avenue to the airport, Sharea Faisal, FTC Building, and Korangi Road towards Defence Housing Authority’s Khayaban-e- Ittihad to Clock Tower at Sea View.

Travel Facility:

He said Karachi does not have such bus facilities for passengers traveling to Jinnah International Airport. Moreover, citizens used private vehicles or cab services, which charged them a fare of up to Rs1,500, but the electric bus service has enabled citizens to travel to the airport for just Rs 50.

Electric Taxi Service:

Memon said that the fares of the current transport services had increased significantly. This makes the introduction of new cheap taxi services even more important. Late last year, the Sindh government also revealed plans to launch an electric taxi service to compete with the ride-hailing service.

Introduce a new environment-friendly taxi service:

Memon said the Sindh government is working hard to introduce a new eco-friendly and comfortable taxi service to Karachi. He added: This project will be released to the public soon. However, Memon did not reveal the timetable for the launch, but given that the government has yet to start testing the service, it can be supposed that it will take a long time.

Special thanks to Civil Aviation:

In this press conference, Memon thanked the Civil Aviation Organization for allowing the bus to enter the airport. He further said that the electric bus service is the responsibility of the residents of the city, and they should work together to solve this problem. Memon also appreciates the leadership of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and said that the Sindh government is paying special attention to Karachi, the economic hub of Pakistan, and its development projects.
