Capital Development Authority (CDA) will soon launch Electric Buses for intracity commuting. According to CDA officials, electric buses will operate on six public transport routes. This section also provides space for bus charging stations. In addition, CDA will open tenders for bus consultants on October 12. The first batch of electric buses will arrive in Islamabad by the end of December. CDA plans to build three base stations for e-buses.
The launch of electric buses:
Launching electric buses has been on CDA’s plan for the past few years. This department also started testing these buses in the twin cities a few days ago. According to the latest reports, detailed follow-up of these programs can be done inside the country.
Route Extention Plan:
CDA is preparing to open 13 new bus routes in two phases. CDA Chairman Capt. (Retd.) Osman Younis states that the first phase will provide transportation on six congested routes. He added that the government would provide buses in seven other ways in the second phase. However, Capt. (Retd.) Osman Younis also said that after the IJP road completion, CDA would start a route from Faizabad to Pir Wadhai. He added that PIMS would act as a hub for the new route and connect services to the Red Line and Orange Line Metrobuses.
Save fuel Costs and Environment:
CDA is evaluating the feasibility of all routes and preparing tender documents for various contractors. The ministry said it aims to reduce people’s dependence on private transport to save fuel and the environment.

Electric buses will become more widespread in the coming years, as will private electric vehicles (EVs) and taxis.
