Pakistan’s improvement in rank of Trading Across Borders Index

 Federal Board of Revenue (FBR):

According to the report of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Pakistan has jumped up 31 positions, from 142nd to 111th rank in the Trading Across Border Index. This is one of the major achievements of Pakistan.

Based on the following three criteria the FBR can make such achievement:

  1. Enhancement of integration of various agencies in the Web-Based One Customs (WEBOC) electronic system.
  2. Reduction in the number of documents required for import/export clearances.
  3. For smooth border trade regulation, enhancement in capacities of Pakistan Customs Officials.

World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business 2020:

Pakistan has secured a place among the top 10 countries so in regards to improving the ease of doing business in their countries by improving the Trading Across Border Index like Pakistan has jumped up 28 positions from 136th to 108th in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business 2020.

 Sixth Global Reformer and First South Asian Country:

According to FBR, this is a milestone in the history of Pakistan, which has led the country to become a Sixth Global Reformer and First South Asian Country, which has brought ease in doing business in both national and international trade.

Pakistan Custom’s concerted efforts under FBR have led to such an impressive performance and in terms of compliance with the World Trade Organization (WTO)Trade Facilitation Agreement eventually leading to a rise in the Trading Across Border Index.

Regional Improvement of Border Services (RIBS):

FBR is further aiming to complete the Regional Improvement of Border Services (RIBS) and Pakistan Single Window to further improve the position of Pakistan in the Trading Across Border Criterion

RIBS is being instigated at Torkham, Chaman, and Wagha so its main aim is to improve the border-crossing facilities which are the transit points to Afghanistan and India.

To make Pakistan’s trade across the border hassle-free and seamless like Pakistan Single Window is integrating at least 46 departments/agencies online in Pakistan.
