Monsoon rainfalls wreaked havoc in Sindh and Balochistan. Intermittent torrential rains have killed scores of people, damaged property worth billions of rupees, flooded roads, and choked drains. However, in this regard, Federal Minister for Climate Change, Senator Sherry Rehman, said that monsoon rainfalls had broken 30-year-old records in Sindh and Balochistan in July.
30 years old records in Sindh and Balochistan
In this regard, Federal Minister for Climate Change, Senator Sherry Rehman, said that monsoon rains had broken 30-year-old records in Sindh and Balochistan in July. Moreover, from July 1 to 9, Sindh received 72.1 mm of rainfall, which is 62.4 mm more than the province normally receives in July. Balochistan received 45.9 mm of Moonsoon rainfall, 39 mm more than the province normally receives in July. However, it should be noted that both regions have already exceeded their respective normal rainfall levels for July in the first nine days of the month. Monsoon rainfall is expected to break all monthly records in both provinces, with 20 days left.
Avoid using plastic bags and bottles
On a separate occasion, minister Sherry Rehman asked the public to avoid using plastic bags and bottles and ensure the slaughter of sacrificial animals at slaughterhouses.
Drainage and sewerage systems
The minister further said rainwater was standing in small and big cities. Drainage and sewerage systems in both provinces are under severe pressure due to heavy rainfall. However, using plastic bags and bottles and slaughtering sacrificial animals on roads and streets will further strain these systems.
