An estimated 400 textile mills in Punjab province are facing closure due to gas and electricity shortages, making it difficult for them to fulfill their export orders. However, the power outage led to the textile mills’ closure and the dismissal of thousands of day-to-day workers.

 Recent gas and power Crisis:

All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) said We couldn’t use mills with expensive diesel, and if the closure continues, textile exports will be reduced by $ 1 billion. Sources in the APTMA said they had referred the matter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif over declining textile exports after the gas and power outages. Moreover, APTMA chief executive, Gohar Aijaz, has called on the prime minister to monitor gas and energy spills and quickly return supplies to the industry.

Prolonged suspension of the gas supply:

Earlier the report said the textile industry would be suspended from July 1 to 8 due to a long suspension of gas supply. However, the gas supply break will greatly affect Punjab’s industries as 70 percent of the textile mills are found there. However, the sources told Media News that Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) was informing the mills about the suspension of gas supply from the captured energy industries. Sources added that the decision to suspend the gas supply was taken to continue the uninterrupted supply of electricity and fertilizer sectors.

70 percent of textile Industries:

Most of Pakistan’s textile industries are located in the Punjab province, which will be the worst hit by the gas crisis. According to a previous report, a long-term suspension of gas supply will force the textile industry to close from July 1 to 8. However, the gas supply break will greatly affect Punjab’s industries as 70 percent of the textile mills are found there.

Conlusion:

Electricity and gas outages led to the closure of textile industries and layoffs of thousands of daily wage workers. However the 70 percent of textile factries are located in Punjab, disruption of gas supply will primarily affect industries.
