Child Marriage means to be married forcefully before reaching at a specific age of adulthood.

In Pakistan there is a Federal Child Marriage Restraint Act 1929 and Punjab Child Marriage Restraint Act 2015 was enforced to let people know the appropriate age for a girl to marry is 16 and for a boy is 18.

These both laws agrees to give a punishment to the people who works against these laws, of either having a jail for a month or 1000RS or maybe both.

However, It has been noted that these laws were not practiced since then and this activity is being followed up till now, mostly in rural or uncivilized areas of the country.

21% of the girls are married before the age of 18 and 3% are married before the age of 15.

According to UNICEF, Pakistan has the sixth highest number of child brides in the world.

It is true that child marriage deprives the girls from the fundamental right of childhood, education and mainly health.

At the age of 15 or 18 the health of girls is still not very stable which leads to malnutrition issues.

Child marriage is driven by gender inequality and the belief that girls are inferior to boys.

Pakistan’s Senate has voted to end child marriage, despite determined opposition from religious parties against raising the age girls can marry to 18 .
