Plastic bags are traditionally made by Polyethylene, where Ethylene is derived from natural gas and petroleum.

The natural decomposition of these bags takes nearly hundreds of years which is why it used by us Pakistanis so often.

The bags are tinted and they are commonly manufactured by Blown film extrusion.

500 billion plastic bags are used by shopkeepers every year.

These bags are very harmful for the marine mammals whereas, more than 100,000 of them die annually and closes the sewage pipes that causes the problem of over-flowing of gutter lines and does not drain rain water which is a huge disturbance for the city.

Instead of plastic bags, biodegradable bags are suggested by the Walton Cantonment Board (WCB) which are very easily decomposed. Moreover, it has been told by people that usage of Biodegradable bags is a really good solution for this increasing problem as it is being practiced in some areas of the country.

The citizens of Pakistan appreciate the Government initiative of banning plastic polythene bags.

Some shops in DHA phase I have been sealed by WCB for not practicing on this activity. Instead of using plastic bags, paper bags or jute bags can be used.
