Ten years of CPEC: Chinese vice premier to Visit Pakistan tomorrow

The Chinese vice premier will visit Islamabad to celebrate ten years of CPEC. Moreover, the State Council of the People’s Republic of China vice premier is set to visit Islamabad on July 30. The purpose of the visit is to participate in a ceremony celebrating the 10th anniversary of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). CPEC is a significant project under the Belt and Road Initiative, which aims to enhance economic cooperation and connectivity between China and Pakistan. The visit is expected to last until August 1.

Meetings with Pakistani Leaders and Officials:

Ten years of CPEC- The Chinese vice premier will meet with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during the visit. Additionally, he is scheduled to hold meetings with Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and other government officials. The visit is highly important, representing the Chinese government’s continued commitment to the CPEC project and its bilateral relationship with Pakistan.

Ten years of CPEC

PM Shehbaz Sharif’s Appreciation of CPEC’s Impact:

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the CPEC project for its transformative role in Pakistan’s development landscape. He highlighted that the CPEC initiative has led to the launch of several multi-billion dollar projects, bringing progress and development to the region and the world.

Projects Under CPEC’s Umbrella:

Under the CPEC framework, Pakistan has completed numerous projects contributing to its development. These projects include coal-fired power plants, the Orange Line mass transit project, and road infrastructure. However, The prime minister emphasized that the success of CPEC is the result of hard work and deciding commitment between the leadership of Pakistan and China.

CPEC’s Transparency and Investment:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif referred to CPEC as a “very transparent” project. He acknowledged that the Chinese government and companies had invested $25.4 billion in various projects under the initiative. Furthermore, he expressed gratitude to President Xi Jinping for his consistent support of CPEC, as it has positively impacted the well-being of the people of Pakistan. The prime minister also expressed confidence that CPEC would continue to bring progress in areas such as agriculture, special economic zones, information technology, and mineral resource exploration.

CPEC and Its Objectives:

The CPEC was initiated in 2013 by then-prime minister Nawaz Sharif. It is a multi-billion-dollar project and is the flagship initiative of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). CPEC aims to leverage Pakistan’s strategic location for economic gains through enhanced regional connectivity and integration.

CPEC Projects:

The CPEC project has been divided into four phases: early harvest phase (2018), short-term projects (2020), medium-term phase (2025), and long-term phase (2030). These phases encompass a wide range of projects, including physical and digital connectivity, power generation, and the promotion of industrialization through special economic zones. The comprehensive portfolio of projects was developed through extensive research, consultations, and negotiations between representatives of China and Pakistan.
