The Sindh Government has declared a public holiday for the death anniversary of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, founder of the Pakistan Peoples Party  PPP, on the 4th of April, 2023. Therefore the Sindh government has declared the 4th of April as a public holiday on the 44th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. However, the notification has come out.

Public holiday:

All offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous institutions, schools, universities, businesses, and local councils under the control of the Sindh government will be closed on the 4th of April, 2023. However, essential services such as hospitals and emergency services will continue their services. However, It is worth mentioning that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto is the founder of the Pakistan People’s Party. Currently, Pakistan People’s Party is the only political party in the government of Sindh province and one of the supporters of PDM.

A Profile of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto:

Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was born on the 5th of January, 1928 in Larkana. His father’s name was Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto. He was the dewan (prime minister) of the princely state of Junagadh.

Education:

Bhutto was educated at Berkeley and Oxford and trained as a barrister at Lincoln’s Inn. He served as Pakistan’s foreign minister in Ayub Khan’s government but broke with him and founded his party, the Pakistan People’s Party, in 1967. Moreover, his party won a major share in the 1970 elections in West Pakistan. After the fall of Dhaka, General Yahya Khan handed over power to Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and became Prime Minister in 1973. Bhutto served in this capacity until General Zia-ul-Haq overthrew his government.

Judicial murder:

In the 1977 Parliamentary elections, PPP was won, but many political parties claimed that the PPP was rigged. Amid widespread protests in July 1977, Chief of Army Staff General Zia-ul-Haq ousted Bhutto in a bloodless coup. Moreover, Bhutto was executed on the 4th of April, 1979, for authorizing the murder of a political opponent, Ahmad Raza Khan Kasuri. However, political observers still claim that it was a judicial murder at the behest of Zia-ul-Haq.
