Social media on Wednesday was abuzz with Shoaib Akhtar and anchor Dr. Nauman Niaz names following the former’s quitting from the sports analysis show on the national television in reaction to the latter’s ‘obnoxious behavior.

After Pakistan beat New Zealand on Tuesday night, the incident occurred during a post-match ‘Game On Hai’ program on PTV Sports. The sports talk show also features West Indian star Sir Vivian Richards, former England cricketer David Gower, Sana Mir, Umar Gul, Aaqib Javed, and Rashid Latif. Akhtar, a former fast bowler, quit and walked out of the PTV program after being “insulted” by Niaz.

During a Pakistani team interview, Akhtar praised Lahore Qalandars of Pakistan Super League for acquiring Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf. Niaz disputed Akhtar’s comments: “You are a little rude, so I don’t want to say this, but you can go if you are too smart. I say this on the air. ”

When the show resumed after the break, Akhtar apologized to the team’s guests and announced that he was resigning from PTV, saying he would not continue with the show because of “how I was treated on national television.”

The incident then became public on social media. The two men became the mainstays on Twitter, and videos of widespread controversy prompted Akhtar to release a video message to “clarify” the situation.

Akhtar, in a tweet, dismissed the notion that it was a planned move to improve TRP as he gave the context in his remarks that his face seemed to admit that it was steep. Calling the whole incident an “unfortunate” incident, Akhtar said Niaz was “hateful” and asked him to leave “without agreement and reason.”

In response to this development, the management of Pakistan Television Corporation noted the incident on a live program with fast star Shoaib Akhtar in PTV sports. PTV management formed an investigation committee to investigate the incident.
