Renowned Urdu Poet and Writer:
On Tuesday 26th January 2021, the very sad news was released on media, that our famous Urdu poet and writer Rehan Azmi is no more with us. He died after many years of prolonged illness.
Dr. Rehan Azmi was born in 1956 in Karachi and started his literary career in 1974. For his work throughout his career, he was awarded multiple awards and certificates.
Famous for Heart-wrenching Nohas and Marsias:
Dr. Rehan Azmi was famous for his heart-wrenching Nohas and Marsias and a vast collection of Urdu Poems. He has written many popular poems, Nohas and Manqabat including Bargah-e-Aqeedat, Tehzeeb-e-Manqabat, three-volume series of Aik Anso Karbala Mein, Hurriyat-e-Fikr, Lalu Kheeti ki Diary, Nawai Minbar, and Chaar Misray.
Dr. Rehan Azmi wrote lyrics of several songs which include the popular song Hawa Hawa, later sung by Hasan Jahangir.
Rehan Azmi’s books and songs:
Dr. Rehan Azmi has written a total of 4,000 songs and authored over 25 books. His work was translated into different languages such as Hindi, Gujarati, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, and Roman.
In the year 1997, Dr. Rehan Azmi was included in the Guinness Book of World Records as the speediest poetry writers in the world.
Head of Urdu Department and Central Secretary:
Apart from his literary and journalistic career, He worked as the head of the Urdu Department in the Group of Ali Ali Schools. He was also appointed as the central secretary of the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM).
Raja Nasir Abbas Jafari (MWM General Secretary) and Allama Baqir Abbas Zaidi (MWM Provincial General Secretary) expressed grief over the demise of Dr. Azmi and stated it as an “Irreparable loss.”
On Tuesday 26th January 2021, Dr. Rehan Azmi’s funeral prayers will be offered after Maghrib in the mosque adjacent to the Markazi Imambargah Jaffer-e-Tayyar.
