Omicron outbreak:

The NCOC on Monday decided to increase the level of surveillance in high-risk areas of the country amid an Omicron outbreak of coronavirus. Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad and SAPM, Dr. Faisal Sultan, NCOC chief executive Asad Umar said South Africa’s epidemic diversity was more dangerous than ever. He apprehended that a new variant of coronavirus would arrive in Pakistan.

Vaccination is the only defence:

The NCOC chief said that restrictions could only delay the arrival of this new variant, so they can’t stop it. The only defence we have is vaccination. coming the next few days, a robust vaccination campaign will start in all four regions. We only have two to three weeks before the variant arrives to vaccinate as many people as much as possible. The NCOC is thinking of beginning a booster-shot program for people most susceptible to coronavirus. Details will be announced by tomorrow. Dr. Faisal Sultan said that even in European countries, unvaccinated people are being affected the most.

Booster-shot program :

The research into the genetic makeup of this variant has revealed mutations that can make it deadly and highly contagious, said Dr. Sultan. He said the ban was slapped on the arrival of international travelers, where the Omicron virus was found, adding that further steps were being taken in this context. Speaking on vaccination, which is the only solution to the virus, Asad Umar urged the crowds to get vaccinated jabs as soon as possible. However, the decision on the booster shots will be taken tomorrow.

The emergence of a new COVID, Omicron:

Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has announced new Category-C international travel advice following the emergence of a new COVID, Omicron. The CAA has placed 17 countries in South Africa, Hong Kong, Iraq, Namibia, and Ukraine on the latest travel advice list. Passengers traveling from category-c countries will need a permit from the NCOC to enter Pakistan. They will have to provide full proof of the Covid-19 vaccine, the CAA said.
