The surge in Covid-19 cases:

According to the Official Data, after the opening of government colleges in Karachi on January 18th, 2021, there has been an increase in the number of covid-19 cases in the government colleges all across the city. ARY News reported that a total number of 130 staff members of different government colleges in Karachi, has been tested for the coronavirus. There have been many reports about the increasing number of coronavirus cases.

Colleges in which positive cases have been reported:

Officials stated that several colleges are being tested for the virus. As per the data reported, almost 59 Staff Members of Sir Syed Government Girls College, has been contracted with the contagious coronavirus till today.

In the Shaheed Millat Girls College Karachi, almost 21 staff members were tested positive for the virus. Similarly, 21 more staff members from Government Riaz Girls College have been infected with Covid-19. In Delhi College, three staff member’s tests came out to be positive.

 Geo News reports that it is suspected that the government may close these colleges until further notice, from where the increased number of cases are surging.

  Reopening of Primary sections and Universities:

Since 18th January 2021, classes from nine to twelve resumed on-campus sessions, after which these cases started increasing. Now Officials have decided to reopen universities and primary sections from 1st February 2021. While this being decided, there are 657 new cases of coronavirus reported in Sindh, making the provincial total tally up to 244,339 in the last 24 hours. About 12 more people have lost their lives due to the virus making the total death toll up to 3,969.

Most of the Universities and Primary schools till today have not been tested for the Covid-19 virus. This has left fear among the parents of primary students, whether to send their children to school or not.
