Abdul Razzaq: Pakistan to Start Exporting Cell Phones in January 2022
Two Chinese companies have set up factories in Pakistan for this purpose.

The matter was referred to a parliamentary panel by an adviser to the Prime Minister of Commerce & Investment, Abdul Razzaq Dawood, on Tuesday. According to the adviser, two Chinese companies will set up mobile phone companies in the country; moreover, phones are expected to be export from these firms. One of these Chinese companies has already established industry in the Modern City – Karachi.

Abdul Razzaq also revealed that Samsung, now aiming to set up a mobile phone manufacturing facility in Pakistan, had twice refused to set up a factory in that country at the request of management.

The South Korean tech giant has already approached the Pakistani government for incentives after two Chinese companies, which plan to export mobile phones from Pakistan, have set up factories in the country. As a result of its earlier rejection, Samsung will now have to set up a factory from existing incentives and will not be given further incentives, Abdul Razzaq said.

Samsung, a South Korean technology company, has agreed with Lucky Motor Corporation (LMC) – a subsidiary of Lucky Cement – to integrate mobile phones in Pakistan later this year.

The cellular manufacturing facility will be built at the existing LMC factory in Karachi’s Bin Qasim Industrial Park (BQIP).
